Contract: Outreach and Social Media Coordinator

Applications for this contract are now closed. Thank you for your interest! If you applied, we will get back to you by Tuesday, September 8.

DMG is a grassroots, community-driven not-for-profit videogame arts organization founded in 2012. We create space for communities that are often marginalized in tech and games spaces to make, play and critique videogames within a cultural context. We recently launched a new initiative, Damage Labs, to support the creation of new commercial game studios founded by marginalized artists in Canada.

We are seeking an outreach and social media coordinator for a short-term contract to support the launch of this new initiative.

  • ~20 hours per week
  • 4 weeks, starting September 12
  • Compensation: Flat contract rate of $2,500 (about $31.25/hour)
  • Location: Anywhere in Canada
  • Deadline: Friday, September 4
  • This is a contract role, so you will set your own hours and use your own equipment

About you

Since this is a quick turnaround and short contract, we are looking for someone who:

  • Is familiar with games and/or media arts organizations or creative communities in Canada
  • Has strong written communication skills – you’ll be sending a lot of emails!
  • Is comfortable creating visual content for Twitter and Instagram (with our support)
  • Has some prior experience with project administration or coordination
  • Understands the barriers people with intersecting marginalized identities face in accessing tools, resources, networks and support in games

About the contract

There are two priorities for this role, both in service of our goal to solicit a diverse pool of applicants representing a broad scope of geographical regions, identity groups, and backgrounds.

Community outreach

  • Research and update contact list of non-profit organizations, studios and relevant community groups
  • Share information about applying for and participating in our first cohort of the Studio Startup program with communities across Canada
  • Collect and relay feedback about accessibility of application process and program so that we can make quick improvements

Social media coordination

  • Write copy, produce shareable graphics using our assets and schedule content publication
  • Monitor and respond to comments and questions on primary platforms
  • Grow our audiences by connecting with relevant groups and individuals
